The resistance to fl ame is a fundamental (inherent) characteristic or quality of the fabric. It cannot be removed or washed out. Treated Fabrics incorporate an additional Flame Retardant to the surface of the material to give the fabric its fl ame resistant quality.Clear faceshields or clear hood windows do not offer effective protection against the incident heat energy from an arc fl ash exposure. As the incident energy increases, the creation of an opaque char on the shield window surface decreases the percentage of transmitted energy, but at these higher exposure levels, there is still more than suffi cient heat energy transmitted to cause a predicted second-degree burn injury. What Arc Suit Should I get???Unfortunately . . . that is not suffi cient information to select the correct PPE. Knowing the voltage is only one piece to determine Arc Flash PPE. The available fault current, the working distance between the worker and the equipment, the clearing time of the circuit protection device, the spacing between conductors or from a conductor to ground, the number of phases, whether the conductors are in an enclosure, and the equipment confi guration are also needed to determining the potential Arc Flash exposure level and the required PPE.FAQs | Arc Flash Hazard Analysis: Before conducting any task, it is important to always conduct a thorough hazard evaluation of your task to determine the proper PPE. There are resources to assist you with this process, such as the Task Tables in NFPA 70E & CSA Z462. You can utilize the free shareware “Heat Flux Calculator” (visit www.oberonsafety.com to download) as a tool to evaluate the potential energy exposure of your task.
