Offshore Meteorological Masts and ORQA Platforms Brochure

Offshore Meteorological Masts and ORQA PlatformsWe provide meteorological monitoring system design, supply, installation, operation and maintenance (O&M) and decommissioning services for utility-scale offshore developers, lenders, investors and operators, together with met-ocean data collection and analysis using our meteorological mast and Offshore Risk Quantification Analysis (ORQA) platforms. With the expertise and experience of undertaking measurement and analysis of a full range of wind, wave and tidal data, we understand how important accurate data collection is for your project. We provide turn-key and project managed solutions for the advanced collection of multi-data streams, improving the design, planning and environmental consenting stages for the offshore wind industry - minimising risk and reducing uncertainty surrounding predicted energy and financial yields at proposed and operating sites.Comprehensive data recovery, monitoring and reporting services are complemented by our vast remote power and communications experience; both key elements in providing you with accurate and bankable offshore data. Our service includes:• Design, installation, O&M and decommissioning of wind speed and met-ocean measurement systems• Data collection, management and analysis - including data quality assurance• Wind and environmental conditions prediction and reporting • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling• Review and visualisation of inter-array wake effects• Power performance assessment• Turbine layout optimisation• Wind regime assessment• Energy yield prediction• Owner’s engineerMeteorological mastConsisting of an equipment platform; lattice tower; instrumentation; aviation and navigational lighting; data logging; power; and communication systems, the mast is also equipped with an intelligent monitoring system, enabling remote platform observation, including ‘health checks’ via statistical data streams.Parameters that can be measured using the meteorological mast include:• Wind speed• Wind direction• Wind shear• Wind turbulence• Ambient temperature, pressure and relative humidityFull service mast feasibility, design and specification, installation, O&M, and decommissioning services, complete with on-going data collection and screening, including met data analysis, tailored to meet your specific and unique project requirements are included.sgurrenergy.comLocal knowledge; global expertiseWe’re proud of our reputation for technical excellence.Offshore 24/7 meteorological data capture and analysisWe have the solution. This dedication, coupled with our expertise in delivering expert engineering and technical advisory services and innovative product developments, has positioned us as one of the leading engineering consultancies in the industry today. We understand how important accurate data collection is for your project.Page 02/04ORQA data monitoring platformORQA is an advanced offshore data monitoring platform designed specifically to capture a full meteorological, environmental, wave, tidal and foundation picture of offshore conditions to help inform the design, planning and environmental consenting phases of your offshore wind project.  ORQA utilises industry-leading Galion 2nd Generation Lidar technology to capture more accurate and bankable data. This cutting-edge technology is transforming the way the industry understands wind flow and gathers offshore data. Increased accuracy, in the measurement of offshore conditions, offers real value through significant risk reduction and maximised return on your investment.Benefits of deploying ORQA and Galion include:• Significant cost reductions compared with offshore measurement using current hub-height meteorological mast systems due to Galion’s ability to accurately capture data across the rotor disc and the ease with which Galion can be deployed. Galion’s compact and lightweight construction means it can be lifted into place in higher wind speeds and in waters of greater significant wave height (Hs)• Reduced need for multiple masts due to Galion’s unique all-sky scanning steerable beam, capable of capturing critical wind speed and direction data over an extended horizontal distance of 4km and vertically up to the top of the atmospheric boundary layer• Reduced energy yield inaccuracy and increased financier confidence• Full characterisation of complexities and anomalies in wind flow across the rotar disc and throughout the proposed wind farm• Optimised project layout and minimum wake losses due to Galion’s enhanced turbulence, shear and veer data capture capabilities Platform customisationBoth meteorological mast and ORQA platforms offer versatile, customisable solutions for advanced data collection and risk quantification. You can choose from a wide selection of additional equipment and a complete range of advanced data capture options, including meteorological, hydrographic and environmental conditions, offering a greater degree of data accuracy than ever seen before. The remote power supply, including photovoltaic (PV), wind turbines, battery and voltage regulators or diesel generators can also be customised to meet your specific requirements.Additional equipment options include:• Closed circuit television (CCTV)• Navigational aids, including lighting, fog signals and aircraft warning beacons• Automated bat detectors• Visual observation platform• Weather station• Shipping/vessel Radar monitoring• Offshore rated shelters• Emergency alert systems• Satellite communication systemsMeteorological• Lidar, anemometers and wind vanes for accurate wind speed and directional data gathering• Temperature and relative humidity probes and barometers • Rain gauge and current weather sensors for measurement of precipitation and visibility measurementEnvironmental• Bird detection Radar - providing valuable and robust ornithological data• Passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) equipment to detect and track the presence and movements of sea mammals• Conductivity temperature depth (CTD) probes for water temperature and salinity measurementHydrographic• Tide gauge for collection of water depth data• Directional wave buoys for precision measurement of wave height and direction• Acoustic Doppler wave and current profilers for accurate wave and current data collectionFoundation• Inclinometers for precise inclination and deflection assessment• Strain gauge for internal strain measurements• Near-bed sediment concentrations and changing sea-bed characteristic monitoring to assist with measurement of scourBenefits of deploying ORQA and Galion include significant cost reductions compared with offshore measurement using current hub-height meteorological mast systems...Page 03/04We have a proven track-record of providing industry-leading technical and advisory services, working with leading developers, lenders, investors and operators on some of the world’s largest and most challenging offshore wind farm sites.Supporting your project from initial wind assessment through to bankable energy yield prediction, our highly qualified consultants, analysts and modellers provide a comprehensive package of independent services that typically deliver wind farm yield predictions within 5% of operational performance.*ExperiencedWe’ve a proven track-record.To benefit from our impartial and independent services or to find out more about our experience and what we have to offer visit sgurrenergy.com, contact us on any of the telephone numbers listed below or email us at info@sgurrenergy.comUnited Kingdom 225 Bath StreetGlasgowG2 4GZ+44 (0)141 227 1700 Ireland+353 (0)53 916 9702France+33 (0)140 214 459China+86 (0)106 539 2191India+91 (0)206 527 9957United States+1 207 699 5592Canada+1 604 267 1717Contact usWe’d like to hear from you.sgurrenergy.comOur highly qualified consultants, analysts and modellers provide a comprehensive package of independent services that typically deliver wind farm yield predictions within 5% of operational performance.*AccreditedWe’re committed to quality. We hold triple certification in British quality standards and are committed to delivering the very highest standards of Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Assurance. This commitment is demonstrated by our continued certification to OHSAS 18001 (Health & Safety Management), ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) standards. Our technical skill set has also been accredited to UKAS ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard.
