PIPING VIBRATION CONTROL DYNAMIC STUDIES – AIV – FIV - PULSATION Piping Reference Vibratec has a strong experience on vibrating process or utility pipes. Vibratec handles vibration issues at the design stage and also performs on-site control and troubleshooting. Context: Piping vibration can lead to severe damages on main lines & auxiliary systems (small bore, thermowell...): vibrations can induce cracks & leaks, leading to heavy maintenance and even installation shutdown. Proper understanding of the phenomena at stake is essential to prevent & / or mitigate these risks. Vibratec is a world-class expert that can help you keep your major piping vibration issues under control. A Combination of Multiple Factors Main types of piping vibration sources: • Process (e.g high-velocity fluids), • Organs (e.g valves, restricted orifices creating pressure drops) • Mechanical equipment (mechanical transmission of vibrations, pulsation inside the fluid). It is therefore of utmost importance to distinguish the main excitations in each piping vibration issue. Amplifying factors: Excitations can be amplified by improper design of the line & connected structure. Typical defaults are: •Supporting structure not stiff enough, •Mechanical resonance with the pipes and structure natural frequency, •Acoustic resonance in the line length, •Design of acoustic solution (restricted orifice, anti-pulsation bottles,…) inadapted to the system. Piping vibration issues are therefore not trivial and involve various disciplines (piping, structure, process). The intervention of an expert with a global approach is necessary most of the time. Thanks to its extensive experience and feedback from previous projects, Vibratec is the expert you need. Keywords: AIV: Acoustic-Induced Vibration, FIV: Flow-Induced Vibration. Throughout plant lifetime, Vibratec has the tools & experience to assist key Oil & Gas players for their piping vibration issues. On-site measurements: Experts measure and analyze vibrations & dynamic pressure data. Root causes are determined and recommendations provided. Main techniques used: •Vibration spectra analysis, •Pipe pressure spectra analysis, •Dynamic stress analysis, •Operational Deflection Shape. Predictive methods: Vibratec’s experience of on-site troubleshooting and source identification make it possible to propose robust solutions tested through computation. Vibratec uses finite element analysis and pulsation analysis (as per API 618 and API 674) to predict and optimize the vibration levels.
