A coolingtower system provides the least expensive cooling per ton forapplications where 85°F water is acceptable. While providingan efficient method of cooling, tower water can becomecontaminated with air borne debris and dirt. And even with awater treatment system, scale can accumulate in heatexchangers thereby reducing heat transfer efficiency.A plate and frame heat exchanger will isolate contaminatedtower water from clean process water and still provide thelow-cost benefits of a cooling tower system. Also, a centralheat exchanger on a closed loop system reduces cleaning andmaintenance costs associated with operating several heatexchangers throughout a facility.While some equipment manufacturers provide a closed looptower with an integral heat exchanger, there can bedisadvantages to this type of system. The resulting tower isheavier, requiring more costly installation and expensive roofsupports.
