COMPANY HISTORY

Industrial Scientific began in 1976 as the Research Division of National Mine Service Company (NMS) with a focus on developing instrumentation to detect methane gas. In 1985, NMS sold the division, and Industrial Scientific Corporation started its operations as a private company. With ongoing investments in research and engineering, the gas detector family grew to include patented technologies and state-of-the-art designs. Industrial Scientific became the premier supplier of the most rugged and dependable gas monitoring equipment in the world.

In 2017, Industrial Scientific was acquired by Fortive Corporation, a Fortune 500 company that drives innovation and continuous improvement to help accelerate progress. Under this new ownership, Industrial Scientific is equipped with the tools and resources to achieve its vision.

Today Industrial Scientific is a leader in providing gas detection products, services, and solutions for worksites around the world. The company has over 800 employees across the globe committed to preserving human life and property.

Industrial Scientific is investing in companies that expand the future of workplace safety beyond gas detection. In 2008, Industrial Scientific purchased Predictive Solutions Corporation, a company that focuses on predicting the likelihood, frequency, and location of workplace injuries using its customers’ safety observation data. Its software solution, SafetyNet, helps track, trend, and analyze safety-related data. The company drives culture and process changes within organizations that lead to sustainable injury prevention programs.

ActiveBlu, the maker of the world’s first intrinsically safe beacon certified for use in North America, was founded in 2015 to develop wearable, connected worker technology to enhance worker productivity, safety, and well-being. Industrial Scientific acquired ActiveBlu in 2017 in an effort to expand the iNet® platform and to develop connected worker solutions.
