1999
Founder and CEO, John Tamplin, became involved in the subsea industry through his former career as a Sonar Technician in the US Navy conducting hydrographic surveys in support of EOD and mine clearance operations. Using his expertise with sidescan sonar to detect and locate undersea mines, John took the leap to form Seafloor Systems, Inc.

2005
Seafloor develops the first generation HydroLite-TM single beam sonar system. Initially built for US Army applications, surveyors soon loved the HydroLite (and still do!). No longer did they have to tromp through water to get depth readings. Now, one could simply attach the kit to any boat and produce precise maps. More data collection, less hassle.

2010
Seafloor introduced the HyDrone remote-controlled Unmanned Surface Vehicle to the market. The HyDrone pioneered the now commonplace practice of using unmanned vessels to carry survey equipment into hazardous or inaccessible bodies of water. Now, surveyors could safely, and efficiently, collect hydrographic data from the shoreline.

2014
Seafloor brings the EchoBoat radio-controlled vessel to the lineup. Measuring 1.8m, this mono-hull RCV was capable of deploying a multibeam echosounder remotely. It was equipped with an inertial orientation system, sound velocity sensor, and an industrial PC to collect data from all onboard systems. Streamlined, efficient multibeam survey was now possible from an unmanned vessel.

2015
In 2015, we unveiled the industry-disrupting AutoNav auto pilot module for unmanned vessels. The AutoNav makes it possible for users to pre-plan a survey mission, upload it to the vessel, and have it carry out the survey autonomously. Once the survey is complete, the vehicle returns to the launch point for ease of recovery.

2018
2018 saw development of Seafloor`s largest USV to date; the HydroCat-180. This USV is capable of transiting from inshore to offshore areas whilst carrying high-resolution payloads to conduct autonomous hydrographic surveys.

This 18ft (6m) catamaran has individually articulated hulls, a gimballed deck, and dual-actuated electric motors. The robust design ushered in new efforts to navigate and survey offshore environments.
