Instrumentation division

Starting with a first-of-its-kind single instrument being supplied to Pfizer in 1992, SMS Holdings now operates all across the world, with 5 subsidiaries spread between its instrumentation branches and contract laboratories. Whether it’s our unrivalled series of sorption analyzer instruments or the in-depth contract analysis services on offer, SMS is a globally-renowned organization that remains synonymous with innovative engineering and scientific excellence, unmatched in the field of sorption science.

SMS LLC’s instrumentation division specialises in the development, manufacturing and commercialisation of innovative sorption instrumentation. What started in 1991 with the invention of the Dynamic Vapour Sorption technique (DVS), has now developed into an internationally recognised business producing the world’s leading series of instruments for the characterisation of solid materials. Leveraging our expertise in sorption science, SMS continues to develop innovative products using a variety of techniques, making us the go-to company for complex sorption applications. The development of the first and only, purpose-built Inverse Gas Chromatograph (IGC) instrument is a reflection of our continuous commitment to expanding the limits of sorption science; enabling unparallel insight on surface energetics.

Contract Laboratories division

Particle characterisation remains at the forefront of most R&D processes involving solid-state materials. As new materials are developed, demand for these services continues to increase. SMS LLC has recently invested in a state-of-the-art laboratory for particle characterisation located in India. While initially focused on pharmaceutical powder characterisation, we aim to become a world centre of excellence for powder characterisation all over the world.

Particle Characterisation Laboratories (PCL) is a CRO that specialises in materials characterisation. We work with labs and researchers across the world to provide tailored, professional, and detailed insight into a diverse range of materials and particles. PCL has two locations, India and UK for their respective pharma and porous material units.

Pharma and Food Unit: PCL stocks a diverse array of particle engineering & characterization instruments, enabling us to offer a comprehensive package of techniques for understanding key properties in pharma and food materials. Whether the needs involve formulation, stability testing, or method development and validation, our FDA-approved Lab can provide a tailored analysis package.
Porous material Unit: With a range of sorption characterization instruments on hand, we employ gravimetric, volumetric, and chromatographic gas/vapor techniques ideally suited to characterizing porous materials. Utilizing our deep knowledge of sorption analysis, we can provide detailed insight into the functionality of your porous material.
