Surface Recycling And Dismantling Brochure

Opportunities for property developmentOur cities and local communities are con-tinuously growing. However, they also en-counter limitations, because building landis becoming increasingly scarce. Accordingto the German Institute of Urbanisation, almost 130 hectares of land are claimedper day for settlements and transport pur-poses. Natural areas are often sacrified forinward investors – despite the fact that de-veloped sites in prime locations are alsoavailable. Revitalising these “jewels” andactivating their economic potential is oneof the goals of Zech Umwelt GmbH.An eyesore turned into a gem: our so-lution for sustainable urban developmentis “Inward Growth”. Whatever the site –we remediate and decontaminate proper-ties of all kinds, thus returning them to theeconomic chain. The advantages for prop-erty owners, authorities, remediators andbuyers are that they all stand to gain fromattractively priced inner-city sites enjoyingLAND RECYCLINGoptimal links to infrastructures. From theenvironmental perspective, the future be-longs to land recycling – the only way ofensuring that green fields stay that way.We bear the risk, you harvest thefruits: many local governments havecome to realise that revitalising disused ordegraded land is a way of attracting newenterprises and creating jobs. In manyplaces, forms of urban development thatprotect natural resources have priorityover new development schemes and re-ceive government assistance. Yet there arestill reservations: because the substrate ofa contaminated site is hidden from view, itis difficult to put a price tag on remedia-tion. We are successful in this respect onaccount of our many years’ experienceand our state-of-the-art surveying tech-niques – indeed, we are so good that webear the risk involved in the scheme andwill quote you a fixed price.Zech Umwelt GmbH · August-Bebel-Allee 1 · 28329 Bremen · Germany · T +49(0)421-41007-0 · F +49(0)421-41007-330contact@zech-umwelt.com · Our partner network in your region can be found under www.zech-umwelt.comconstruktiv, Bremen Our services – more than state-of-the-art envi-ronmental protection: There is much more we canoffer besides reliable information and planning security– namely a complete range of land management serv-ices. We analyse, evaluate, plan and remediate contam-inated locations and disused industrial sites, take care ofselling the revitalised property, if requested, and willeven handle new property construction and the sub-sequent facility management. How can we achieve allthis, while maintaining highest quality standards? Quite easily: Zech Umwelt GmbH is part of, and suppor-ted by a strong corporate group – the internationallyoperating ZECH GROUP, comprising professional companies in the fields of civil engineering and facilitymanagement. An example of successful land recycling – remedi-ation of the Emden oil refinery: An enormousachievement within a mere 30 months: transforming theFrisia oil refinery, established in 1959 on a 66-hectaresite in Emden, into the new “Frisia Industrial Estate”.This was accomplished by an EU-cofinanced projectcarried out by the Frisia Emden consortium managedby Umweltschutz Nord GmbH, a Zech subsidiary spe-cialised in environmental engineering. The challenge – emptying and restoring the siteto its previous state: There was much to do, giventhat the refinery had not been closed down properly atthe outset. A total of 59 tanks, 58 kilometres of piping, pumping facilities and pig stations, loading facilities andcomplex process engineering plant containing a total of13,500 metric tons of oil were emptied and cleaned, and the site returned to its pre-refinery state; the jobalso involved the removal of 31 buildings, 25 trans-formers and 6,000 square metres of asbestos lining. Thevisible end of the refinery was the demolition of threechimneys with heights up to 92 metres.A clean bill of health – soil remediation using theTerraferm® process: The only way of ensuring safeuse of the site, which was contaminated with hydrocar-bons and mineral oil products, was to replace the soil.More than 85,000 cubic metres of contaminated sub-strate were excavated and treated using the highly ef-fective “Terraferm® Biosystem Earth” process in theprocessing facilities at Umweltschutz Nord GmbH inGanderkesee and Bremen. The contamination problemwas completely solved by means of this biological soilcleaning method, and there was no need to move thecontaminated soil to some other site. This complexproject ended with the construction of the new “FrisiaIndustrial Estate”.Project in EmdenOn-site washing plantSuccessful teamwork – how it’s done:If you are a property owner wanting rid of a contaminated site because you do not want to shoulder the risksof remediating at your own expense, or if you are looking for assistance in making the site usable again, thenwe can help you in either event. It is advantageous here if a public-law contract has been concluded with localgovernment, specifying the entire execution of the project, including the scope and timeframe of remediationand the basic principles for subsequent marketing of the site. To ensure a project’s success, we also focus ef-forts on working together with the local authorities involved – because land recycling is always teamwork.Umweltschutz Nord GmbHGanderkesee · GermanyT:+49(0) 4222/7909-90F:+49(0) 4222/400-439Umweltschutz Süd GmbHNuremberg · GermanyT:+49(0) 911/968685-21F:+49(0) 911/968685-18Umweltschutz West GmbHGladbeck · GermanyT:+49(0) 2043/9634-0F:+49(0) 2043/9634-50Umweltschutz Ost GmbHBerlin · GermanyT:+49(0) 30/6581117-0F:+49(0) 30/6581117-5
