High-Pressure Water Jets:the Quick Answer toCleaner Tanks and ReactorsThe Leader in High-Pressure Water Jet TechnologyManual cleaning methods are slow, and you can’tstart processing again until cleaning is complete.Using solvents or caustics compounds the problem, because the care required for their use and disposalrequires more time and money. And when workersare exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals orcaustics, safety and confined space entry becomeconcerns, as well.Fortunately, high-pressure water jet systemsfrom NLB Corporation clean tanks and reactors inminutes instead of days. The power of high-pressure water (up to 36,000 psi, or 2,500 bar) canstrip away virtually any product build-up, even intight spaces… without using chemicals and withoutrequiring anyone to enter a tank. You save time, labor and moneyThe key is NLB’s 3-Dimensional tank cleaninghead, which focuses high-velocity water jetsthrough two rotating nozzles. While the headrotates horizontally, the nozzles rotate vertically, powered by the reaction energy of the high-pressurewater. The combination of these movementsproduces a 360° cleaning pattern over the entireinterior surface of the tank, tote or reactor. Whentanks are large — e.g., 20 to 30 ft. (6 to 9 m) high —the head is inserted into the vessel on a telescopinglance. Six cleaning head models and three lancestyles are available to suit virtually any application(see next two pages).© NLB Corporation, 1997SAVE TIME AND MONEY WITHWATER JET CLEANINGSAVE TIME AND MONEY WITHWATER JET CLEANINGProduction Time Lost Personnel Cost Net Savings With NLB SystemsReactor Present Method NLB Present NLB Production PersonnelCapacity Method Time Costs3,000 14 Hours 4 Hours 14 Hrs. x 4 Hrs. xGallons (Manual) 3 Workers = 2 Workers = 10 Hrs. 34 Hrs.42 Hours 8 Hours6,000 28 Hours 5 Hours 5 Hrs. xGallons (Chemical) 2 Workers = 23 Hrs. +10 Hrs.10 Hours20,000 72 Hours 8 Hours 72 Hrs. x 8 Hrs. xGallons (Manual) 4 Workers = 2 Workers = 64 Hrs. 272 Hrs.288 Hours 16 HoursProtective CageDA8141 helpsprevent damageto NLB3750 3-D cleaningheads.NLB 3750 3-D cleaning heads produce3-dimensional coverage that thoroughlycleans tank, tote and reactor interiors. They are available in three models, delivering flows of 15 to 80 gpm (57 to 302lpm) at pressures of up to 13,000 psi (896 bar). Each of these models can be ordered in a heavy-duty bronze body, a stainless steel body or alightweight aluminum body, depending on theapplication. All rotate from 2 to 40 rpm, andfeature adjustable rotating speeds to suit the typeof build-up being removed.Lance Swivel Turret NLB5996 (right) is used insmaller vessels to locate the 3-D cleaning headinto the required working position. With thisaluminum turret, the lance has three movements:extension/retraction, inclination and rotation. It has three movements:extension/retraction, inclination and rotation. Theswivel socket lance mounts to the vessel’s manwaywith a custom-designed adapter. The Telescopic Lance is used in large vessels and inareas where overhead height is limited. It featuresexternal handwheels to extend/retract, incline androtate the 3-D head as needed, and a custom-designedmanway adapter. Standard lance lengths range from20” to 295” to service vessels from 121” to 334” inheight. Custom-engineered sizes are also available, asare fully-automated telescopic lances. The Lightweight Telescopic Lance has most of thesame features as a standard NLB telescopic lance, but ismade of aluminum and therefore weighs about 80%less. This makes it more maneuverable aroundobstacles in a tank. There are three models to choosefrom, with a minimum extension of 23.6” (60 cm) anda maximum of 245.4” (6.2 m).Automated Telescopic Lances are custom-designedto fit a customer’s tank, reactor or other vessel forbetween-batch cleaning. They are generallypermanently attached to the vessel. Extension andretraction mechanisms can be electric, hydraulic orpneumatic.Lance Carts are available to transport telescopiclances and raise them into position.Model No. Min. Extension Max.
