AS 175: Asbestos Awareness (2 course hours) This session will discuss briefly the history and uses of asbestos through the years, as well as the health effects associated with asbestos exposure. It will demonstrate where asbestos is commonly found in buildings and how to identify and manage asbestos hazards. The course will detail the federal and city laws that regulate asbestos in buildings. AS 275: Asbestos Awareness for General Industry (2-8 course hours) OSHA 1910.1001 requires employers to develop a training program for all employees who are exposed to airborne concentrations of asbestos at or above the PEL and/or EL. Training must be provided prior to or at the time of initial assignment and at least yearly thereafter. The training program must inform employees about ways in which they can safeguard their health. In addition, employers must provide an awareness-training course for employees who do housekeeping operations in facilities where asbestos-containing materials or presumed asbestos-containing materials are present. The elements of the course must include the health effects of asbestos; locations, signs of damage and deterioration of asbestos-containing materials and presumed asbestos containing materials; the proper response to fiber release episodes; and where the housekeeping requirements are found in the standard. LS 600: Lead Safe Work Practices (8 course hours) This course is designed primarily for maintenance personnel and other individuals who perform repairs in residential dwelling units (more than 2 square feet, but less than 100 square feet.) In addition, housing owners, managers and administrators are urged to take this course. The course teaches the proper procedures to reduce the risk associated with lead-based paint while performing routine maintenance and repair tasks. LS 601: Lead Safe Work Practice Awareness (3 course hours) This course is designed primarily for owners, managers, and other housing professionals who do not perform repairs to residential dwelling units. In addition administrators are urged to take this course. The course teaches the proper procedures that should be utilized to reduce the risk associated with lead-based paint while performing routine maintenance and repair tasks. LS 606: HUD Lead-Based Paint Training For Remodelers And Renovators (6.5 course hours) This course is designed to teach renovators, remodelers, painters, carpenters and those who regularly disturb lead-based paint, safe work practices. The course provides information on containment, minimization and cleanup of lead hazards. Students who successfully complete the course and pass the examination are issued a certificate of course completion by the training provider. LS 607: Visual Assessment (3.5 course hours) This course is designed primarily for owners, managers, and other housing professionals who do not perform repairs to residential dwelling units. In addition, administrators are urged to take this course. LS 608: Lead Paint Exemption & Compliance with Local Law 1 (2 course hours) This course is designed to show property owners how XRF testing can be utilized to gain exemption from their obligation under Local Law 1 of 2004. The impact of lead testing will be discussed and how it affects Title 10 and OSHA regulations. MA 100: Mold Awareness Training (2 course hours) With increased media attention and exposure, mold has leapt to the front of the pack of environmental issues facing building professionals today. This session will go beyond the basic science of mold and will focus on how to prevent mold from occurring and how to manage mold problems. In essence, we will address the source of the problem: Moisture.
