Used Oil Recycling System – VMAT Brochure

V I B R A T O R Y M E M B R A N EA DVANCE DT R E AT MENTUsed Lubricants - Crisis or OpportunitiesUsed lubricants are generated in every city wherever cars, machineries, manufacturing equipment are available. Used lubricants, if not properly treated, could pose serious pollution to underground water, river water, and the environment, etc. Remediation of the situation was a challenging and expensive lesson to a lot of countries in the past. Commonly found used lubricants:-Engine oil-Transmission oil-Metal Cutting oil-Hydraulic oil-Transformer oilBurning used lubricants directly without tight emission control will release toxic chemicals and metal contents into the air. Acid clay treatment of used lubricant has been restricted in many countries due to the cause of secondary pollution to underground water and generation of acid sludge. However, the scarcity of fossil fuel resources is alarming the world. In view of the perpetual increase of international crude oil price, recycling used lubricant into usable lubricant or Reprocessed Fuel Oil (RFO) in an environmentally friendly and cost effective manner has become a sensible and promising option. In 1993, Dunwell acquired and revitalized an abandoned used lubricant re-re?nery operation whose previous business owner lost nearly US$10 million. With continuous effort in technological upgrades and innovative business strategies, Dunwell manages to collect and process more than 85% of used lubricant generated in Hong Kong. By improving the Wiped Film Evaporation (WFE) process, Dunwell attains a monthly production capacity of 1,500 cubic meters (400,000 gallons) per month. A successful used oil recycling operation depends on the following:i)ability to collect and segregate various lubricantsii)adopting ef?cient and effective recycling technologiesiii)ability to market recycled lubricant productsBeing certi?ed with IS09000:2000 and IS014001 and receiving many awards and recognitions, Dunwell has been able to recycle the used lubricant into high quality, green lubricants for clients such as the Hong Kong government, construction industries, utility companies, manufacturers and vehicle users locally and overseas. Today, Dunwell is totally independent and one of the few pro?table used lubricant recycling technology centers in the world.Realising technological limitations and operating costs involved in WFE and distillation, Dunwell has been exploring and developing for alternative technologies around the world. Sedimentation Tank is an important equipment for removing these substances and equalizing the feed used oil.StrainerStrainer prevents any solid with a size larger than 20 mesh from entering the vibrating membrane system.CentrifugeSuspended and medium sized solids are removed from the feed used oil.HeatExchangerHeat Exchanger increases the temperature of used oil to a maximum of 90°C.Condensed Gas, Light End & WaterTo remove residual moisture from used oil.Short Path Decolorization UnitTo lighten the color to meet the requirements of base oil or higher grade lubricant.Condensed GasDecolorized OilPermeate A quality blending material or medium grade machine lubricant.Vibrating Membrane Core technology is employed to ?lter used oil into clear oil effectively.ConcentrateGood for asphalt extender or other application.Vibrating Membrane MechanismAs the contaminant within used lubricant is of relative large particle size and lubricant is viscous membrane in nature, membrane may be easily fouled using a conventional cross-?ow membrane technology.By adopting VMAT’s vibratory shear enhanced processing, the application of intense shear waves at the membrane surface causes solids and foulants of used lubricants to be repelled and permeate (clear oil) to ?ow through the membrane pores continuously. With a single pass operation, permeate (light brown, clear oil) is obtained from the used lubricant.
