The following images show several usage examples of the Xtractor: The container that we have used the most is a translucent safety container. We use this because the liquid level is visible. The container is set up with fittings according the its’ purpose and how it is going to be emptied. If you have just liquid with out suspended solids we supply the container with a quick disconnect fitting with a check valve to attach to the Xtractor. This is an example: If your waste stream contains solids you will need a larger diameter tube to allow them to pass. We utilize a pass through fitting, which allows the tubing to penetrate the container when you are ready to extract the waste but is closed for transport to the processing area. An example of this follows: Quick disconnect for emptying the can The pass through allows us to agitate the liquids in the container via a back flush circuit from the pump. This is used to clear any blockages in the tube or to cause the solids that have settled to go back into suspension. Both methods connect to the Xtractor, which pumps the waste liquids from the container to Pass through fitting the 55-gallon drum. Once the drum is full the machine shuts off so that the operator can replace the drum. There are various ways to input fluid to the container. The most common method is to pour directly via the wide mouth spout. See below If the waste stream is coming from an HPLC, DNA synthesis or ink jet printer. We use quick disconnect fittings with check valves and an activated carbon filter vent. The purpose of the vent is to allow pressure to equalize with in the container. See below The fittings from the HPLC can accept 1/16”, 1/8” or ¼” tubing. If multiple machines need to feed we can supply a manifold. Some labs use Nalgene carboys and bottles. We can adapt the closure to use our carbon filter and input. Input from HPLC Carbon Filter The container would be emptied via the wand. Below are examples of the closures. WCS 600 The WCS 600 is an activated carbon cartridge with a quick disconnect fitting designed for use with the WCS 1205NHP five-gallon safety can for the collection of waste from HPLC and DNA synthesis machines. The purpose of the cartridge is to allow the container to equalize pressure while being filled and to adsorb the volatiles that are released. The filter is sized to be disposable as non-hazardous waste. Quick Disconnect Fitting Activated Carbon Media Directions for use: Insert the male quick disconnect fitting of the filter into quick disconnect female check valve on the safety can, connect the waste line into the other female check valve. When the container is full remove the filter and waste input line so that the container can be transported to the waste bulking area.
