Defence & Aerosupply India 2014
The focus of Defence & Aerosupply India 2014 is on Defence and Aerospace and civil aviation subcontracting. Providing a platform for focused pre-arranged B2B meetings along with a professional conference, functional exhibition and manufacturing site visits; it is a unique opportunity to explore state-of-the-art defence and aerospace solutions and meet with innovative manufacturers and dedicated partners.
The Indian defence industry has evolved and has been developing capabilities in land, naval and air systems. After the introduction of Defence Offset Policy, India is gradually becoming a key outsourcing hub for the global defence industry. The stars are further aligning for this sector in India. The recent increase in the FDI will herald a new era of unprecedented industrial growth in the future, which will match those of the fastest growing economies. The continuous revisions of the Defence Equipment Procurement Procedures in the recent past suggest the intent of the Indian Government to streamline the procedures and make the system more transparent.
It is estimated that Indian defence procurement will rise to an estimated USD 42 billion by 2015 (including USD 19.20 billion for capital acquisitions) which could make it one of the most attractive defense markets in the world. India has nearly spent USD 100 billion on military procurement during the current five year plan (2007-12) and USD 120 billion in the next plan period (2012-17), the latter coinciding with the last phase of India’s ambitious military modernization plan. There are greater opportunities for Indian defence industry to work with partnership or in collaboration with overseas companies, thus enabling them to have broader market access.
Armed forces are expected to increase their purchases of new equipment and technology for the next 20 to 25 years. Liberalization of India’s defense procurement policy offers a unique opportunity for Indian companies to provide services for the armed forces. To fully exploit new opportunity of FDI and fulfill offset obligations, original equipment manufacturers and their suppliers should leverage India’s competitive advantages in manufacturing and information technology by setting up units in India. A large number of Indian private companies and publicly funded research laboratories are looking for international partners. India has emerged as a global R&D hub with 150 of the Fortune 500 setting up R&D labs in India. A liberal special economic zone (SEZ) policy creates a competitive eco-system for exports by providing attractive fiscal incentives.
The key drivers of Indian aerospace and defence industry are high domestic demand for next 25 years, FDI increase to 49%, offset policy, cost advantages, talent base and leveraging IT competitiveness.
