At the forefront are innovative systems for identifying waste, segregated collection systems, recycling and energy exploitation of waste, including the recovery of inert waste - noble metals - critical minerals, domestic and industrial WEEE.
There´s a special focus on integrated processes for the management of organic waste which aim to recover materials and energy.

Waste - collection and removal
Considering the importance of road transportation of waste in Italy, and the focus placed on the safety of vehicles and on their environmental impact, this section has the objective of presenting industry specialists with all the major technological innovations, the latest new patents and excellent new products from the market of solid and liquid waste collection and removal vehicles, as well as cisterns for draining septic tanks and hazardous waste. A broad range of skips and compactors for segregated waste collection and storage units of various types and for different uses will also be presented, for street furniture, domestic and special waste collection, with attention not just to functionality, but also to design and to the materials used.
Plenty of space will be dedicated to vehicles for road and industrial cleaning and maintenance.
There will also be an exhibit of the entire range of industrial and/or special vehicles for the collection and disposal of solid and liquid waste.
For the most part, these are Italian manufacturers ranked as leaders in this sector, offering their production range across all continents, in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania.
One of the emerging industrial areas of Ecomondo is Italian and European Bio-based industry i.e. multi-product biorefineries (which produce several chemical compounds and biogas) and non-food biomass refineries, from wood cellulose and from organic waste, to be introduced in abandoned industrial areas. Reduction of food wastage, efficient energy use and transformation of the food industry including the integrated exploitation of its by-products and waste.
The shortage and cost of crude oil, combined with an insistent demand to reduce the environmental impact associated with its usage in chemistry and conventional chemicals, make the implementation of the tools and strategies of Green and sustainable chemistry increasingly in keeping with the new provisions of current applicable European Directives and the priorities of the new European Horizon2020 framework programme and thus a genuine opportunity for innovation and competitiveness for the country.

AIR, for 2015 the news of the national body of technical professionals on odorous emissions: the guidelines and technological innovations in the field of odours produced by waste treatment systems, the methodological approaches to the control of emissions from purification systems and the regulatory and authorisation aspects with reference to the amendment introduced by Italian legislative decree 128/2010 to the Fifth Part of legislative decree 152/06. The most important projects and the state of the art in the monitoring of indoor air quality: the health and hygiene aspects and the quality targets in terms of the emission of materials and their labelling. Focus on the new technologies offered by the market to eliminate pollutants present in atmospheric emissions and on new monitoring and control methodologies.
This year’s conference programme includes conferences and workshops intended to present the biggest technological, legislative, procedural, economic, research and innovation implications linked to the adoption of the circular economy in the major sectors of traditional and innovative industry. There will be a “spotlight event” on the flow of raw material, alternative and critical for conventional and new industrial processes, and one on efficient use of traditional raw material and industrial eco-design. The theme of classifying and making the best use of waste will be dealt with from various perspectives, ranging from new European regulations and strategies to more technical aspects and management best practice. There will be a seminar on the classification of waste in light of recent European provisions, another on strategies for preventing waste and finally one on the field of making the most of waste in the framework of the circular economy, with the presentation of studies applied to various categories of waste, from that associated with high-tech products to plastics. A parallel session will be dedicated to the monitoring, management and treatment/exploitation of organic waste, both civil and industrial, through integrated biorefinery schemes but also anaerobic digestion with bio-methane generation. A further session will be dedicated to the efficient treatment of industrial and civil waste water with recovery of nutrients, their exploitation and reuse of water resources. A section organised together with the European Commission and the Bio-based Industries Public-Private Partnership will be dedicated to the BIO-BASED INDUSTRY & BIO-ECONOMY in the Mediterranean, with the presentation of examples of biorefineries using non-food and surplus biomass and agro-industrial by-products/waste in the field locally. The sustainability of the food industry will also be discussed, as well as optimal use of water and sea resources.
We will have a session dedicated to monitoring and sustainably reclaiming contaminated industrial sites and marine environments (recovering and prevention of marine litter). We will also discuss decommissioning and conversion of disused sites, as well as systems and solutions for preventing hydro-geological disturbance. Finally there will be an event on the URBAN CIRCULAR ECONOMY, that is, the circular management of waste and water in towns and cities, increasing its energy efficiency, monitoring and quality of outdoor/indoor air and systems for purifying it.
