Valorisation and services for integrated waste management
The final approval at European level of the Circular Economy Package and its subsequent transposition at national level offer the system comprised of recovery and recycling companies (the real drivers of the circular economy) the chance to embrace the challenge of evolving and transforming from the waste recycling model typically associated with a linear economy to a fully-fledged circular economy system.
On show, the technology that enables innovative solutions in the integrated management and valorisation of materials, making it possible to increase the efficiency of manufacturing processes, thus offering new options for materials recovery and supplying the market with the secondary raw materials that meet the ever-growing demand from the manufacturing industry (alongside supplies of virgin raw materials).
Technology and machinery for waste processing
A special focus on equipment and technologies for the selection and recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap and its preparation for sale, the treatment of special and hazardous waste, the recovery and treatment of WEEE, end-of-life vehicles and worn tyres; the wood and plastics, glass, paper and cardboard and packaging supply chains are represented.
Companies in attendance include the Italian and international key players in the sector.
Equipment and vehicles for the collection and transportation of waste
On show, all the major technological innovations, the latest new patents and excellent new products in the market of solid and liquid waste collection and removal vehicles, as well as cisterns for draining septic tanks and hazardous waste. A broad range of skips and compactors for differentiated waste collection and storage units of various types and for different uses will also be presented, for urban furnishings, domestic and special waste collection.
Plenty of space will be dedicated to vehicles for road and industrial cleaning and maintenance.
The entire range of production for industrial vehicles and/or special vehicles for the collection, transport and disposal of solid and liquid waste will be at the Show.
Systems and containers for waste
Machinery and equipment for moving and lifting
The entire industrial supply chain will be on show, represented by leading companies in waste lifting and moving, splitting and all equipment for demolition, inert systems for recycling inert materials, materials from C&D and roads and for reusing them. Components and attachments will also be present.

Circular Bioeconomy
- Bioenergy: biomass, bioliquids, biogas, processes and products.
- Circular bioeconomy, biomaterials, blue economy.
- Aquaculture and fishing.
- Ecodesign of products and processes.
- Repair services.
The focus on biobased industry and the bioeconomy, promoting and enhancing the new economic and cultural model of the CIRCULAR BIOECONOMY. The aim is to optimise business for all companies engaged in production of renewable organic resources and converting them, through innovative and efficient industrial biotechnologies, into organically based, bioenergy-derived products, including food and animal feed, under the heading of 'chemicals'.
Leading the supply chain are companies that develop biopolymers, bioplastics, producers of organic waste-derived material converters, in short, all the small-large biorefineries (Novamont, first and foremost, and other major players of the traditional global chemical industry) as well as producers of systems for composting, anaerobic digestion, the agro-industrial supply chain and leading engineering companies.
Exhibitor Targets: industrial biotechnology, algae, biomass, biorefineries, biopolymers, bioenergy, biofuels, biobased chemicals, biobased lubricants, biobased surfactants, biobased materials, including building materials
Visitor Targets: purchasers looking for applications from biochemical companies, systems, feedstock, suppliers, consultants, R&D investors and analysts, professionals, researchers at academic institutions, policy-makers, regulators, NGOs.
Bioenergy
Ecomondo confirms its status as one of the key events on the calendar for this strategic sector, forming a 'bridge” between the gas and electric systems.
This is thanks to the collaboration established in recent years with CIB - Italian Biogas Consortium (logo) and the recent regulation introduced with the decree on biomethane by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, which has been decisive for the development of this sector, bringing flexibility to the national energy system.
Among the essential innovations is the fixed-price buy-back of surplus biomethane by GSE and CIC, which will guarantee the bankability of investments in the sector, and the reconversion of existing systems.
It is estimated that boosting biomethane production could avoid 197 mln tons of CO2 emissions (scenario by 2050), based on figures recorded to date. (Source: Althesis).
The development of the supply chain would also make it possible, by as early as 2030, to create over 21 thousand jobs and to generate tax revenue of 16 billion euros through business taxes and taxation on salaries and wages.
There are many positive knock-on effects:
- existing systems for production of electricity from biogas will be safeguarded, with incentives for energy produced offered alongside those for biomethane.
- The feeding of biomethane into the natural gas grid or fuelling stations could provide the electricity system with reserve and balancing services, constituting a turning point for businesses.
- Lastly, there is the additional desirable prospect of the creation of flexible plants for CHP production (heat+power) and biomethane, which would deliver highly and rapidly flexible electricity generation.
The aim is to highlight the numerous existing systems and biotechnologies for the production of renewable gas from biogenic sources and hydrogen from renewable sources, accompanying the development of other intermittent renewables (sun and wind) and attributing new value to gas infrastructure.
Reclamation and Hydrogeological Risk
-
Decontamination and regeneration of polluted sites.
-
Hydrogeological instability and reforestation
-
Sustainable management of ports, sediments and coasts.
- Marine litter, ship building and ship transport.
Reclamation of contaminated sites and regeneration
Reclamation of contaminated sites and regeneration
This is the area dedicated to Technologies for Reclamation and Management of Contaminated Sites.
In partnership with the key players in the sector: Federchimica (Italian Chemical Industry Foundation), Unione Petrolifera (Petroleum Union), Italian Ministry for the Environment, Ispra (Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), Syndial, ISS (Italian Health Institute), SusChem, Italy Environmental Biotechnology section of the European Federation of Technology and others.
This area will host companies that excel in decommissioning activities, reusing brownfield sites, abandoned industrial areas, run-down and abandoned districts, the reclamation and reuse of which today represents a crucial challenge in Italy too.
Hydrogeological risk
The new sector of Ecomondo dedicated to systems and solutions for preventing hydrogeological risk and major climate-related risks, flooding and coastal erosion.
