High-level conference on water cooperation-2013
It is my great pleasure to invite you to participate in the High Level International Conference on Water Cooperation to be held on August 20-21, 2013 in Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan.
The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan convenes the Conference according to the General Assembly Resolution A/67/204 "Implementation of the International Year of Water Cooperation, 2013", adopted on 21 December 2012. The main purpose of the Conference, as it proceeds from the title, is to promote dialogue and mutual understanding and to strengthen the partnership and cooperation on water issues among all stakeholders at all levels.
Importance of water resources for ensuring the human livelihoods and economies over the past decades has grown rapidly. Crossing the threshold of the 21st century, human civilization changed their attitude to the water, one of the foundations of the life. Indeed, with the rapid growth of population and limited water and land resources, further development of mankind will be associated with hard water saving and improving the efficiency of its integrated use.
In these conditions development of water cooperation is one of the key elements to help addressing the water problems. International experience shows that only a cooperative approach and integrated water resources management including their protection could ensure their effective use.
Developing water cooperation jointly with the strengthening the partnership in other areas will create a strong platform for sustainable development and "green" growth that was pointed out at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development Rio+20.
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan is an initiator of the International Year of Fresh Water, 2003, the International Decade for Action "Water for Life", 2005-2015 and the International Year of Water Cooperation, 2013. Accordingly, we are highly interested in accelerated implementation of the UN water agenda, in its filling with timely and practical measures to gradually solve all the problems and challenges associated with water.Along with participation in the Conference participants will also be given a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of the nature of sunny Tajikistan. All this beauty is based on the water, and we are proud that our country is rich in water resources.
We hope that the High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation in Dushanbe will be an important step in the development and strengthening the water cooperation through mobilizing all stakeholders` efforts in achievement of the internationally agreed goals on water and saving this important resource for future generations.I am looking forward to see you soon in Dushanbe.
