Lessons from the Recent Norovirus Outbreak
Norovirus is considered to be one of the most common causes of infectious gastroenteritis in the UK with up to one million people infected each year. 2012 was particularly bad, with an increase in reported infections of 64%.
It is the aim of this event:
to review the incidents of Norovirus in the UK in 2012,
highlight potential reasons for the increases,
to identify whether potable waters or recreational and shellfish waters receiving sewage discharges pose a significant risk,
to take steps to ensure that the UK water industry is not implicated in the spread of this infection.
