Oman Power and Water Summit 2013

SHARE

Oman’s power and water authorities continue to support the private electricity and water developers to do business in the Sultanate through a number of independent water and power projects (IWPPs) and independent water projects (IWPs). Annual demand for power and water is expected to increase 10% and 5% per year respectively and is likely to prompt a renewed focus on IWPPs and IWPs, and subsequently provide more opportunities for international companies to secure major contract awards. Enhancing the involvement of the private sector will not only strengthen the capabilities of the public sector, it will also introduce competition which will result in customer-facing companies and organisations to re-evaluate their customer service polices.

In addition, Oman has pledged to ensure an estimated 10% of the country’s energy is generated from sustainable sources by 2020. The drive towards sustainability is reflected in:

  • An increase in the diffusion of energy-efficient technologies
  • Expansion of treated sewage effluent water facilities and
  • Implementation of solar projects in rural areas for 2013

By attending OPW 2013, you will learn how to do the following:

  • Align your organisation with stakeholder requirements by understanding the investment opportunities
  • Fulfil your Omanisation targets more effectively by utilising the private sector to develop local expertise
  • Retain customers and grow your business by achieving customer-focussed service delivery in a competitive market
  • Retain the value of your assets and reduce maintenance costs by implementing best-practice asset management methodologies and standards
  • Reduce the risk of down-time for your assets by understanding how to integrate key health and safety practices within your organisation

Focus for OPW 2013

  • The Energy Policy Review being conducted by the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW)
  • An update on power, water and renewable projects, planned and in progress, within Oman for 2013 and beyond
  • The latest technologies and systems being developed to enhance these markets
  • Policies and strategies required to encourage further public - private sector partnerships to strengthen local capabilities and achieve a customer-focussed market in light of the future restructuring and liberalisation of the industry

With over 300 attendees throughout the 4 days, a strong line-up of speakers consisting of government officials and industry professionals and the participation of leading international companies, the Oman Power & Water Summit (OPWS) is the only high-profile event dedicated to major infrastructure projects, investment opportunities, innovative technologies as well as regulation and financing strategies in the Sultanate’s power and water sector. The third edition will include an award ceremony to recognize individuals, companies and projects that are transforming the power and water industry in Oman

Developed in cooperation with the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) and with the official support of the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR), Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER) – Oman, Electricity Holding Company (EHC), Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAECO), the 2012 edition gathered over 320 local and international government, consultants, developers, contractors and material suppliers involved in the power, renewable energy and water industries.

During the focus day dedicated to energy efficiency, delegates had the opportunity to learn from and interact with local officials and international experts on policies, strategies, technologies and best practices available to improve power and water networks efficiency, optimise asset performance and reduce operation and maintenance costs.

The two-day conference featured presentations and panel discussions on Oman’s electricity and water supply and demand requirements, project status for IPP, IWP and IWPP and key focus and strategies for the development of power and water generation, transmission and distribution capacities. The country’s authorities presented the regulatory development related to Oman’s Main Interconnected System losses, capital expenditure and supply competition, clean and renewable energy investment, customer protection, Automated Meter Reading (AMR) and the protection of critical infrastructure from IT vulnerabilities.
