The Waste Management Forum
The Waste Management ME Forum will provide us the possibility to exchange points of view concerning the future and, at the same time, aim to mutually benefit from the experience of diverse countries, with the state-of-the-art knowledge of the different technologies in use, as well as the unique challenges that the industry faces today.
High consumption rates, coupled with high population growth rates of various cultural backgrounds, in turn fuelling expedited urban development and construction, pose a plethora of challenges for the agencies involved in waste management in the Middle East. With over 50 million tonnes of Municipal Waste which contributes to a total of over 200 million tonnes of waste generated in the region, the figures hold a grim reflection of the future of the environment as we see it today.Sustainability is the order of the day and in light of the growing scarcity of natural resources worldwide this has become essential. The development of innovative and efficient recycling processes has led to wastes becoming raw materials, which make good environmental and economic sense. Moreover, making the most of the material and energy potential of wastes benefits the climate considerably.
Options like landfill and incineration can be studied to arrive at viable alternate solutions, though we may still feel that that too much waste ends up on landfills or in waste incineration plants. Further developing waste management at a regional as well as an international level towards climate-friendly closed cycle management with even greater resource efficiency will continue to be a priority over the coming years and therefore, advanced significantly.
