Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B/P SM /NASDAQ: ABGB), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has obtained the highest possible score of 100A in the global assessment carried out by CDP in which companies all around the world are assessed using a standard questionnaire that is published in regional reports. This is the seventh year in which Abengoa has taken part in the CDP climate change program, which is produced at the request of 822 investors that have collaboration agreements with the Climate Disclosure Project (CDP) and represent combined assets worth $95 trillion.
The CDP score is based on companies’ responses to the CDP Climate Change questionnaire. The questionnaire is the same for all those companies around the world that decide to disclose their policies, strategies and actions and subject them to a standard analysis and scoring methodology, enabling them to be compared via the final scores published by CDP. This is the fourth consecutive year that Abengoa has been recognized as a world leader in the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) and the Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI). The indices are published in the CDP 2015 Climate Change Iberia 125 Report, which analyses the performance of the top 125 listed companies in Spain and Portugal (Iberia) in relation to climate change.
The main milestones that Abengoa has achieved to obtain the maximum score this year include a confirmed reduction in CO2 of more than four million tons during 2014 thanks to two products that the company supplies to its clients – bioethanol and solar electrical power. The former is used to substitute fossil fuels in transport while the latter is a source of clean energy.
Another aspect of Abengoa’s activities reflected in the CDP questionnaire is its management of risks associated with climate change. Abengoa incorporates climate change into the risk analyses for its different businesses, assessing probabilities and impacts and taking into account potential variations in temperature, rainfall and sea levels and their effects on the company’s plant and project sites around the world.
Abengoa is among the top 5% of participating companies to be recognized in this way, thanks to its actions to reduce emissions and mitigate climate change. This disclosure highlights the existence of companies and organizations that are working to reduce the impact of climate change.
