Amcor earns UN certification for industrial containers with PCR

Amcor Plc, a global packaging developer based in Zurich, has earned United Nations certification for its 5.5- and 5.8-liter industrial containers manufactured with 50 percent postconsumer recycled (PCR) content at its Pamplona, Spain facility.

UN-certified packaging is designed to prevent spills and exposure, making it suitable for storage and transport of solid and powdered hazardous goods in markets such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical and automotive applications. Amcor notes anticipated strong demand for the containers in swimming pool chemicals and treatments.

Beyond consumer and customer demand for sustainable options, Amcor states that availability of 50 percent PCR products will help companies meet current and impending European Union and national packaging legislation. The Pamplona facility joins Besançon and La Genête, France, and Lubien, Poland, in holding RecyClass certification, enabling RecyClass labeling on nonfood packaging.

The 5.5-liter SuperLift Extra and 5.8-liter SuperFlex containers combine a “robust and product-secure design” that optimizes storage utilization and offers low noise on filling lines, with a lightweight construction for easy handling and transportation. The containers also include a range of decoration options for branding opportunities, and the SuperFlex container can be fitted with a childproof lid, making it impossible for children under 51 months to open while providing easy access for adults, including seniors.
