Darya Morozov’s Upcoming presentation at 2023 Bioremediation Symposium
For our colleagues who are attending the 2023 Bioremediation Symposium in Austin, Texas, USA, we invite you to attend Dr. Darya Mozorov’s presentation at 3:30 pm on Wednesday May 10, 2023 (Session: D6. High-Resolution Site Characterization). This presentation will detail Vista Clara’s recent use of in-situ Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) technology for monitoring of remediation process at Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) site.
The current remediation approach at this site is based on injection of solutions of calcium-citrate and sodium-phosphate into sediments leading to citrate biodegradation and precipitation of hydroxyapatite. The hydroxyapatite serves as a permeable reactive barrier that decreases uranium mobility thus preventing it from reaching the Colorado River. In this work, we used high-resolution borehole NMR technology to remotely monitor longitudinal changes in NMR water signal associated with progress of hydroxyapatite precipitation. The ability to remotely monitor the changes in porosity and permeability plays important roles in a variety of environmental projects there the access to the site is limited and/or can lead to serious personnel health hazards.
Dr. Morozov will present laboratory results conducted on core samples extracted from Moab UMTRA site and longitudinal NMR monitoring results obtained from continuous monitoring of two wells following injection of calcium-citrate and sodium-phosphate solutions.
