DNV`s strong contribution to ESREL conference 2013
The 22nd Annual ESREL Conference was held on September 30 – October 2 2013, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This is an international conference organized by the European Safety and Reliability Association.
The conference has become a well-established event in the international community, attracting a good mix of academic and industrial participants who that present and discuss subjects of interest and application across various industries in the field of Safety and Reliability.
DNV had a strong presence with 6 papers from various offices around the world, demonstrating that DNV is at the forefront of developments in Safety and Reliability. DNV Software’s exhibition stand served as a useful location for delegates to discuss conference topics and to get to know the software packages for risk and reliability assessment. The conference offered a great opportunity for networking with existing and potential customers, academics and other professionals.
Moreover, one of DNV’s papers was awarded the Best Paper Award from amongst 400 high-quality contributions. The awarded paper covers the topic of Dynamic Reliability, one of the focus areas of DNV Research & Innovation at Høvik and Piraeus. Extending traditional methods in safety and reliability with quantitative assessments using formal model-based systems engineering (DNV COSSMOS) R&I is working to develop next generation tools for verification and certification services.
“Developing innovative new knowledge and applications helps engineers to better play the important role they have for society in establishing the basis for decision making. From the perspective of assessing and quantifying risks we, as a profession, have achieved very substantial progress over the last decades. Based on this, the risk and reliability community is looking beyond the horizon. The technology we deploy to fix today’s problems is based on research that started more than two decades ago. What we are doing today should make a difference for tomorrow. Nowadays, advancements in system knowledge, analytical methodologies and computational capabilities, offer a great potential for cross-fertilization between different engineering fields, as the award demonstrates. We shall keep performing on this excellence track and developing smarter services to advice and advance our customers towards a safer and more sustainable future” says Gabriele Manno, one of the authors of the awarded papers.
