Testing vapor pressure for automotive gasolines no longer requires time consuming sample preparation! Recently the ASTM Subcommittee D02.A for petroleum products unanimously voted to include the GRABNER INSTRUMENTS Vapor Pressure method ASTM D6378 as an alternative test method into ASTM D4814 – the Standard Specification for Automotive Spark-Ignition Engine Fuels.

Thousands of customers worldwide prefer the GRABNER INSTRUMENTS method ASTM D6378 over the commonly used methods D4953, D5190, D5191, or D5482. The ASTM included the new method into automotive fuel specifications D4814-09a, as the advantages of ASTM D6378 are obvious:

  • No cooling and air saturation of samples necessary
  • No external vacuum pump necessary
  • Faster and bias-free results

Cooling and air saturation is not required in ASTM D6378, the Test Method for Determination of Vapor Pressure (VPx) of Petroleum Products, Hydrocarbons, and Hydrocarbon-Oxygenate Mixtures (Triple Expansion Method). Thus errors commonly resulting from improper air saturation procedure are eliminated and accuracy is improved. In addition, GRABNER INSTRUMENTS Vapor Pressure Testers are approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board for determining compliance with U.S. federal and state vapor pressure regulations.

Measurements according to ASTM D6378 VPx-method can easily be performed by the recently launched GRABNER INSTRUMENTS MINIVAP VPXpert vapor pressure tester. As required by automotive fuel specifications the MINIVAP VPXpert also displays the dry vapor equivalent (DVPE).
