GTI Covers Helping Protect California’s Water Supply

Geomembrane Technologies Inc. (GTI) is proud to be contributing to California’s water recycling efforts. One of the state’s water districts recently chose a GTI retractable structurally supported cover for the chlorine contact basin at its water recycling treatment plant.

Given California’s drought and the lack of sustainable groundwater, water conservation is extremely important. The plant treats approximately 1.5 million gallons of domestic wastewater each day, and maintains a supply of recycled water for local irrigation purposes. 

The water district’s choice to cover its basin with a retractable GTI cover allows them to block sunlight, thereby controlling disinfectant loss and minimizing associated chemical costs. By preserving its recycled water in this way, the water district saves precious imported drinking water, diminishes the amount of treated water discharged into the ocean, and helps reduce greenhouse gases that result from pumping imported water into the region.
