How GHS Differs Around the World: 3 Main Reasons It’s Not Harmonised
The United Nations’ Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) has taken root across the world and continues to spread. But anyone involved in product compliance knows that all regulations are local. Indeed, as each government adopts the “globally harmonized” system, differences creep in. In some cases, the differences are compromises built into the UN model out of political expediency. In other cases, authorities seek to expand on GHS in order to maintain an equivalent level of protection to existing legislation.
This webinar examines the differences between GHS among those countries that have regulations or standards requiring the use of the GHS system. Understanding how GHS varies around the world is simplified by categorizing each country’s GHS methods with respect to the three major underlying reasons for differences:
- Which building blocks are adopted?
- Which classification thresholds are required?
- What substance classification requirements/recommendations are published by local authorities?
