Key players in Indonesia see what RAM analysis can do

Major engineering, procurement and construction companies (EPCs) and consultancies as well as national oil company Pertamina joined DNV Software to learn about DNV Software’s reliability, maintainability, availability (RAM) products: Maros and Taro.

More than 20 engineers from seven different oil and gas companies attended the DNV Software seminar on RAM analysis in Jakarta. The main focus of the session was the different uses of RAM analysis during the various stages of a project lifecycle.

Presentations were carried out by Victor Borges, RAM Product Manager, who introduced the concepts and benefits of RAM analysis along with real life studies demonstrated with DNV Software’s advanced RAM tools.

“Maros and Taro are mainly design tools – feasibility and design phases are usually where this analysis is carried out to predict future production. However, they can also be used once assets are operational to assess impact of planned modifications,” said Mr Borges.

Benefits and return on investment can be seen across the entire project lifecycle:

• Appraise: basic design scenario screening studies
• Select: FEED design optimisation, equipment selection
• Define: evaluation of detailed design performance
• Execute: development of detailed maintenance strategy
• Operate: on-going optimisation; reliability trending; production forecasting
• Rejuvenation: identify focus areas for rejuvenation, evaluate impact on performance from revamp/de-bottlenecking
• Decommission: identify cut off for venture economics

The seminar raised the awareness of the oil and gas stakeholders in Indonesia on the benefits of RAM analysis in optimising their asset performance. The participants actively engaged in discussions with the speaker throughout the seminar and the feedback received was positive. Some participants also further engaged the speaker for detailed discussion of their potential applications after the seminar.

“The seminar was really good as it showed the extensive capabilities of Maros and Taro,” said Mahmud Ahmad, Piping Specialist at Pertamina. “I am really interested in implementation RAM analysis in the basic design and FEED design phase,” he said.
