Lab Impex confirms CAM performance under seismic conditions
Laboratory Impex Systems in alliance with qualification test experts Trac ,recently performed a further qualification procedure on their SmartCAM AB+ (Continuous Air Monitor) to demonstrate its physical integrity and functionality when subjected to simulated Seismic conditions. The Testing was carried out at the highly regarded Earthquake Engineering Laboratory, Bristol University.
The qualification method used was by means of Bristol University’s triaxial vibratory shaker table testing, in accordance with IEEE Std 344-2004, IEEEE Recommended Practice for Seismic Qualification of Class 1E Equipment for Nuclear Power Generating Stations. Testing was carried out in three mutually perpendicular test axes- the in-service orientation of the SMART CAM AB + was maintained throughout the testing.
In accordance with IEEE Std 344-2004, Para 8.1.5.2, five Operating Basic Earthquake (OBE) triaxial seismic tests were carried out, followed by a single Safe Shutdown (SSE) Triaxial Seismic test and finally one Seismic Margin Earthquake (SME) triaxial Seismic Test . Despite having been subjected to such extreme seismic activity, SMARTCAM AB+ continued to monitor and scan radiation particles as per normal without needing any manual intervention in between testing. This is a significant achievement which Lab Impex believes confirms the performance excellence of SMARTCAM AB+ and its place in the international Nuclear Instrument market.
