Stronger safety standards for engine rooms

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has updated its Code of Practice for Atmospheric Oil Mist Detectors, introducing stricter safety requirements to reduce fire risks in engine rooms.

Engine room fires often start with the formation of oil spray or mist, which can ignite at low concentrations and temperatures. The updated guidelines introduce clearer rules on:

  • Detector placement
  • Alert levels and indication
  • Calibration and testing
  • Inspection and maintenance?

Our Oil Mist Detection System is designed to comply with, and exceed, these requirements. They provide shipowners and operators with greater protection for crew and assets, while remaining reliable and straightforward to maintain.

We are ready to support the industry in meeting these new standards and advancing engine room safety.
