Wetland Credits Available Now in Northwest Louisiana
MSUSA is pleased to announce the release of approximately 66 wetland mitigation credits from Bushneck Bayou Mitigation Bank in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana.
Located in northwest Louisiana, with a service area that includes parts of DeSoto, Caddo, and Sabine Parishes, Bushneck Bayou is actually within the Ft. Worth United States Army Corps of Engineers District. The service area’s watersheds include the Middle Sabine (12010002) and Toledo Bend Reservoir (10210004).
“Bushneck Bayou Mitigation Bank’s wetland credits will help offset unavoidable impacts to wetlands in the area,” explains MSUSA President Terry McKenzie. “The bank is located within the Haynesville Shale Play, an active natural gas drilling area.”
Why purchase credits?
Purchasing credits from an approved mitigation bank is the preferred means of offsetting unavoidable impacts to wetlands and streams.
"Purchasing credits from an approved mitigation bank offers the developer peace of mind," explains MSUSA Vice President Troy Madrigal. "Because the mitigation bank retains liability for the restoration or preservation of the bank, the purchasers can simply buy credits and move on their project in a more streamlined fashion than with other options."
And as the bank`s progress is approved and the Corps monitors required milestones, this option is the best one for the healthy restoration of the environment too, which is why mitigation banking is the Gold Standard for offsetting impacts.
Curious about the history of mitigation banking?
MSUSA`s new Mitigation Banking Timeline provides more comprehensive information about how and why mitigation banking became the Gold Standard for offsetting unavoidable impacts to the nation`s wetlands and streams.
The timeline covers important milestones in the nation`s perception of environmental issues and legislation that followed--from the 1960s until today.
The timeline is also available in downloadable .pdf form.
