The stations obtain their operating power from solar panels or a very long lasting battery and are therefore not dependent on other power sources. They automatically save measurements to a secure database on the internet via the GSM-network. The user reads pre-processed data straight from the database and this means there is no need to communicate directly with the weather station, thus saving valuable time. A weather station can send alarms to a mobile phone or email on the basis of preset events or thresholds, consequently making it active towards the user rather than passively providing information when requested.
