Carbon is one of the most used materials in water filtration processes and makes a complete and efficient activated carbon filtration system. Almost every type of water filter uses activated carbon; common methods include backpacking water filter, pitcher filter, shower filter, refrigerator filter, reverse osmosis water filtration system, or whole-house filter.

In the manufacturing process, we heat the raw carbon to 1000 degrees Celsius in the absence of oxygen. It helps bake all the impurities from the carbon. To produce activated carbon, the material is then heated up to 1600 degrees Celsius. The steam leaves granules within the carbon filled with cracks and pores, allowing them to store/adsorb contaminants and chemicals in a large amount.
