HYDREKA - Model DF Junior -Advanced Ground Microphone System
The DF junior comprises only one sensor, an extremely sensitive accelerometer (CSH 191),that detects the vibration generated, even in difficult environments. It is the essential tool to identify the positions of leaks on a drinking water distribution system. The DF junior is supplied with a control unit (signal amplitude and battery voltage displayed), hi-fi earphones, a sensor mounting plate and a contact probe. The unit is light (700 g) and waterproof (IP68).
Mechanical vibrations produced by leaks from buried pipelines are detected by the DF JUNIOR when its sensor is moved along the ground directly above the pipeline. The sensor transmits the vibration signal to the amplifier and the operator assesses the signal strength both audibly with headphones and visually from the amplifier galvanometor. The maximum signal measured gives the leak position: the nearest the sensor to the leak, the loudest is the noise.
