Conventional model selection method of chillers for injection molding machine

1. Molds act as heat exchangers. Heat transfers from molten plastic into the mold, and then from the mold into the continuous circuiting cooling medium --- cooled water (chilled water). only a small part enters into the air and the die of injection molding machine. It is well known that most of the mold forming time is about cooling and some can account for more than 80% of the plastic molding cycle, therefore, controlling the cooling time to a minimum is absolutely necessary.

2. For example, the molding cycle of a mold usually takes 20 seconds, which can be reduced to 16 seconds, if the water in the original cooling tower is replaced by chilled water generated by the chiller. Therefore, as though configuring chiller increases the cost, it greatly improves the production efficiency of the injection molding machine.

3. The chiller’s refrigerating capacity needed by a mold is related to the specific heat capacity of the molding material, the temperature of the sol, weight, and the temperature at product demolding, and the calculating formula is: Q=M×C×T×S.

S: Safety factor (generally take 1.35-2). When a single machine matches, a small value is generally chosen; when a chiller is matched with multiple injection molding machines, a large value is selected. If the air cooled unit is selected, S should also be selected larger.
