Alpha-Purify - Medium-Pressure UV Lamps
Medium-pressure UV disinfection systems use fewer lamps than low-pressure systems, giving cost and maintenance savings where a large amount of water is treated. Medium-pressure UV lamps used in disinfection and germicidal systems have a higher power density and can make systems more compact than low-pressure lamps. They also emit a wider disinfection wavelength, 200-320nm versus the 254nm emitted by low-pressure lamps. This is increasingly being viewed as an advantage for those running disinfection systems, as it essentially gives a broader spectrum of weaponry against pathogens, tackling the proteins and enzymes as well as DNA.
Medium-pressure based UV disinfection systems use far fewer lamps than a low-pressure system. Giving potential cost and maintenance saving when a large amount of water may need to be treated (as in a municipal water treatment facility) as there are fewer lamps to monitor and maintain.
While lamp life can, at times, be shorter compared to low-pressure lamps and they operate at higher temperatures, medium-pressure UV lamps are ideal for large-scale commercial applications such as ballast water and wastewater treatment.
