LaMotte - Ammonia Nitrogen Test Kit for Water Analysis
LaMotte ammonia nitrogen test kits are specialized tools designed for the quantitative determination of ammonia nitrogen levels in water. These kits employ colorimetric methods, which are based on Beer’s Law, indicating that the intensity of color is proportional to the concentration of the substance. The kits offer two distinct methods: the Nessler method, which utilizes Nessler's reagent reacting with ammonia to result in a yellow to brown hue, and the Salicylate method, better suited for saltwater situations, producing a spectrum of blue to yellow shades without the use of mercury salts. Users can opt for either the octa-slide 2 comparator method, which presents all color standards simultaneously, or the color chart comparator, providing a laminated set of standards for direct sample comparison. These test kits adhere to technical precision requirements, furnishing reliable and straightforward testing for water ammonia nitrogen levels.
LaMotte ammonia nitrogen test kits are for the determination of ammonia nitrogen in water.? There are three kits to choose from (see specifications tab below for details).
Colorimetric tests are those which determine the concentration of a substance based on Beer?s Law which states that the higher the concentration of a substance the more light is absorbed by the sample and the darker the colour develops.? Two colorimetric methods are available (Nessler and salicylate):
Nessler
Nessler’s reagent reacts with ammonia to form a yellow to brown colour.
Salicylate
Salicylate reacts to form a blue colour, which in combination with the yellow reagent colour produces colours from yellow to blue.? The salicylate method is preferred for salt water analysis and does not contain mercury salts as does the Nessler method.
There are two test methods available (octa-slide 2 comparator and colour chart comparator):
Octa-Slide 2 Comparator
A colour bar sits next to the reacted sample test tube, allowing all 8 colour standards to be viewed and compared at once.
Colour Chart Comparator
Colour charts are laminated colour standards.? The reacted sample is held against the chart and compared to the colour standards.
