AquaRealTime - IoT Water Quality Monitor
A fast, simple way to monitor and protect your waterways. A revolutionary new monitoring and detection system providing early warning of harmful algal blooms and other water contaminants. With a low unit cost, AlgaeTrackers can be deployed quickly in multiple locations, from which they immediately stream data to a central dashboard where analytics improve early warning capabilities.
- Green algae via chlorophyll-a
- Blue-green algae / cyanobacteria via phycocyanin
- Turbidity
- Temperature
- Sunlight, wind, rain
- Live GPS
Our dashboard map tracks GPS coordinates so you always know where your device is.
Plus, the dashboard shows a real-time map of all your trackers to get a 24/7 lens into all your water assets in one central location.
- Drop the lightweight sensor buoy into the water. It immediately starts sending 6 key readings to the cloud every 15 minutes. Cellular is all taken care of.
- Our dashboard streams all the data live, displays rich graphs and color coded gauges, and sends you customized notifications at Action Thresholds.
- Early detection enables early action. When levels rise too high for your water, send a team member or water professional to assess for treatment.
The Trackers monitor the data and notify you when important events occur. Once Action Thresholds are reached, deploy your personnel for follow up or treatment only when needed, saving you needless trips to sample manually. We can even connect you with certified water professionals for treatment.
5-10 x Lower Cost of OwnershipThe Tracker is priced to be deployable regardless of budget. Using new hardware and software advancements, we’re able to provide the Tracker at a surprisingly low cost. You can choose a Package with no recurring fees (even cellular data is covered(, or a Subscription and pay as you go with low upfront cost. Volume discounts apply. Contact us for a quote.
Install in 30 MinutesBy combining all hardware, software, and cellular connection into a streamlined unit, AlgaeTrackers can usually be deployed in 30 minutes by just about anyone. At 8 pounds, simply place it in your waterway, clip it to a dock or anchor and it starts sending data to your web dashboard using solar power.
We provide several standard Rigging Packages and have Preventive Maintenance options available.
Privacy and SecurityYou own the AlgaeTracker buoy and data. The data is encrypted during transmission, stored in secure servers, and is never shared with anyone unless you opt to share it. You can download the data easily to a csv file any time. If you have specific private data transfer and storage requirements such as file transfer, API, or using your own database, we can customize a solution for you. Please get in touch.

The AlgaeTracker is a floating sensor buoy that measures 6 key water variables and transmits the data to the cloud. Four more weather parameters are pulled from the closest weather station and stored. It is solar powered, cellular connected, and has self-cleaning sensors that collect data 24/7, updating every 30 minutes. The tracker weighs 8 pounds and can typically be deployed by non-technical personnel in under 60 minutes.
The AlgaeTracker Cloud analyzes the sensor inputs and presents the data in a simple user dashboard accessible from any device. Data are presented in easy-to-interpret charts, permanently backed up, and easily downloaded. Custom alerts at action thresholds and evolving analytics tools enable rapid interpretation of waterbody status. Weekly status reports are generated and sent to your inbox. The system intelligently self-diagnoses issues, corrects, and notifies as needed.

- The AlgaeTracker leverages fluorescence of the pigments within algae and cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) to detect the abundance of the organisms.
- Chlorophyll-a, present in all algae and cyanobacteria, is the most frequently used indicator of algal growth. Phycocyanin, typically present in freshwater cyanobacteria, is used as the indicator for blue-green algae.
- The AlgaeTracker uses an excitation wavelength of 420 nm for chlorophyll-a, and 575 nm for phycocyanin. The peak emission wavelengths measured are at 670 nm and 642 nm respectively.
- The AlgaeTracker utilizes advanced analog and digital signal processing to eliminate the disturbance from ambient light that can affect other sensors` fluorescence measurements.
The AlgaeTracker uses a large solar panel that charges an internal rechargeable battery. It will run stand alone year round as long as the location is not cold enough to ice up the water. From a full charge, without any sunlight, the Tracker can run without interruption for three weeks.
Data transfer runs over 4G cellular technology and is all taken care of by AquaRealTime. The system can automatically hop between 3 carriers to optimize reception, and an oversize antenna is included. No sim cards or data plans to figure out, everything is included from the water to your dashboard.
