Aramid fibers are broadly classified into para-aramids and meta-aramids according to their molecular structure. The outstanding tenacity and tensile modulus, heat-resistance and dimensional stability of para-aramids make them suited for use in various applications, such as automotive components, optical fiber reinforcements and protective clothing. The Teijin Group holds approximately half of the global market share for para-aramids. Meta-aramids boast long-term heat/flame resistance, and are thus favored for flame-/heat-resistant clothing such as firefighting uniforms, as well as industrial materials including heat-resistant filters for industrial plants.
