CTE - Model 200 -Atmospheric Pressure Consistometer
Thickening time tests are designed to determine the length of time a cement slurry remains in a pumpable, fluid state under simulated wellbore conditions of temperature and pressure. The test slurry is evaluated in a pressurized consistometer, which measures the consistency of the test slurry contained in a stationary cup while under simulated well bore conditions. This portable, rotating paddle design gives laboratories greater placement flexibility. The consistency of the fluid is measured in Bearden units (Bc). The CTE model 15-400 is capable of exposing cement slurries to a maximum of 400F and 15,000 psi (204C and 103MPa) for simulating high-temperature, high-pressure applications. This instrument is also capable of measuring the formation of static gel strength at any time during or after a thickening time test or as a gel test performed by itself. The ability to measure gel strength after a period of simulated pumping more accurately reflects the conditions experienced in cementing operations and improves upon current testing methodologies.
Cement slurries are initially mixed with a model 7000 constant speed mixer then placed into the model 200 consistometer in preparation for the following tests as per API and ISO requirements:

- DETERMINATION OF RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
- FLUID LOSS TEST
- Specific tests can be run according to individual requirements.
The Model 200 consistometers are used in laboratories performing cement research, including cement additives, quality assurance, and in other various slurry conditioning requirements.
OPERATION
- The operation and calibration of Model 200 is simple and easy to learn. The cement slurry is prepared in accordance with Section 5 of API Spec 10, and then quickly poured into either of two available slurry containers in the unit. The stirring paddle is inserted and the lid placed on the container. The container is then placed into the temperature controlled water or oil bath and stirring is started. The maximum operating temperature is 250F (121C). The unit is designed so the stirring operation can begin within one minute or less, in compliance with API Spec 10. The temperature of the water bath is controlled and brightly indicated on the temperature controller panel.
