ECOMax-HE - Automatic Tube Cleaning System for Heat Exchangers
ECOMax-HE is a robust and efficient solution engineered to tackle fouling in shell and tube heat exchangers. This automatic tube cleaning system utilizes sponge balls injected through the tubesheet to clean scale deposits within heat exchanger tubes. Featuring a dual-pump mechanism, ECOMax-HE® executes periodic batch operations controlled by a PLC, ensuring minimal maintenance while optimizing performance. It suits diverse applications from HVAC systems to power plants, offering energy savings up to 20% for chillers and a 5% power output increase in power plants. The system enhances cooling capacity, extends condenser tube life, and reduces specific steam consumption without relying on offline cleaning. With a payback period of less than two years, subject to local conditions, and decreasing harm from cleaning chemicals, it's well-suited for industries aiming to bolster efficiency and sustainability.
ECOMax-HE is an effective solution to keep shell and tube heat exchanger clean. The solution uses sponge balls that are pumped simultaneously into heat exchanger tubesheet, enabling them to pass through the tubes and clean the fouling and scales deposits within.

Automatic tube cleaning process by ECOMax-HE®, specially designed with two pumps, involves periodic injection and collections cycles using condenser cleaning balls. The cost-effective tube cleaning process is a batch operation, automatically controlled by PLC and occurs periodically few times in an hour, hardly for 1-2 minutes for injection and collection in each cycle.
- The injection control valve opens and injection pump starts taking water from the Cooling Water inlet header pipe.
- The pump boosts the pressure in the Ball Collector (BC), where the cleaning sponge balls are resting.
- The condenser cleaning balls are injected almost simultaneously in the heat exchanger tube sheet with the help of injection pump.
- With an effective spread in various tubes, the sponge balls pass through and clean.
- Once the sponge balls come out of the heat exchanger tubes they are collected in a ball trap.
- During this cycle, the collection control valve opens and the collection pump starts.
- The collection pump collects water along with the sponge balls from the Ball Trap.
- The condenser cleaning balls are arrested by the Ball Collector on the way back & water is sent into the Cooling Water outlet header pipe.
- Separate pumps for ball injection and collection, with negligible power consumption
- Parallel Injection and Collection Design offers ease of operation on multiple chillers
- Above feature allows simultaneous injection in one condenser and collection in another
- Single System for multiple Heat Exchangers/Condensers
- Fully automatic – online cleaning on continuous basis on running chillers
- No water wastage and no mixing of CW inlet and CW Outlet Water during operation
- Smart System- with Zero Ball Loss in the system and an alarm for Sponge Ball Replacement
- Touch screen Multi Colour HMI
- Minimal pressure drop in the Ball Trap
- Highly reliable as the system has less number of control valves
- Cleaning Sponge Balls would never be in contact with the pump impeller
- Compact, smaller footprint with Green Technology
- Sight glass on the ball collector facilitates easy counting & monitoring of sponge balls
- Results in up to 20% energy saving in HVAC chillers
- Increases cooling capacity of HVAC Chillers
- Reduces Specific Steam Consumption
- Eliminates offline cleaning*
