OGSBi-Directional Provers for Meter Calibration

SHARE
Bi-directional provers serve as a dependable method for meter calibration, offering an accurate and straightforward means to verify meter readings and establish meter factors directly in the field. Their operation is grounded in positive displacement measurement, with the displacer moving in both directions facilitated by a four-way diverter valve. Constructed from pipe, these provers can be customized in numerous configurations to meet specific application needs. They are designed to deliver long-term reliability with minimal maintenance. The measurement capability ranges from 4 to 42 inches, adhering to industry metering standards. They feature quick opening closures for ease of inspection and maintenance. The calibration process employs a water draw method using volume tanks, considered a standard practice across the industry. OGS's bi-directional provers are ISO 9001, ISO 29001, and ISO 45001 certified, ensuring adherence to quality management and safety standards.

A bi-directional prover is one of the most reliable means available to verify meter readings and establish meter factors

It is an easy and accurate way to calibrate meters in the field, in order to ensure exact measurement of liquid flow.

The principle of operation is based on positive displacement with flow and displacer travelling in both directions by means of a 4-way diverter valve. The bi-directional prover is constructed of pipe which can be configured in many ways. The bi-directional prover offers long-term reliability with minimum maintenance.

OGS provides pipe provers with 4″ to 42″ measuring sections.

Our design complies with the recommendations of the following metering standards (typically):

  • API (MPMS) Chapters:
    • 4.2 Displacement provers
    • 4.6 Pulse interpolation
    • 13.2 Statistical concepts and procedures in measurement
  • ISO 7278/BS 6866 Liquid hydrocarbons – Proving systems of meters used in dynamic measurements
  • OIML RR119 – Pipe provers for testing and measuring systems for liquids other than water
  • GOST requirements for proving systems

Quick opening closures allow access for inspection and loading/unloading of spheres. The launch chambers are designed between 30 and 90 degree angles depending on applications.

Prover calibrations are made in the field using volume tanks. This water draw method is an industry standard which can be supplied separately or integrated with our prover skids.
