BioRAS - Model TBL -Camera Lenses
Good quality camera lenses with focal lengths from 12 – 25mm are available at a very reasonable price. The choice of lens should match the camera. We have tested the micro lenses below from The Imaging Source (www.theimagingsource.com) which we have found to perform well, and which are a good compromise between cost and performance. Micro lenses require an adaptor in order to fit onto a C-mount camera. The lense adaptor includes a fixing screw. Lens adaptors for the lenses mentioned below are identical.
The lens focal length depends on the working distance between camera and measuring chamber (or observed object), the desired field of view and the camera sensor size.
Calculation of the Focal length for recommended cameras in a 3D tracking setup:
Focal length = (Working distance * Sensor height)/(Field of View + Sensor height)
The recommended camera sensor size is 1/3” (height = 3.6 mm; width = 4.8 mm)
The Working distance in the Macro 3D setup is 400 mm
The field of view (FOV) is the size of the observation area, for the 3 measuring chambers the field of view is 100 mm, 70 mm and 50 mm.
