The company believes HGV drivers need a combination of direct and indirect vision and other cutting-edge safety equipment, such as passive and active technology, for optimal safety.

It’s this philosophy that has led Brigade’s experts to develop a camera that can detect pedestrians using artificial intelligence (AI) with state-of-the-art machine learning.

Inspired by the success of the CarEye® Safety Angle (CSA), a next-generation sideguard assistant for HGVs, buses and coaches, led Brigade to expand its range of AI powered products by introducing a wider range of affordable solutions.

Offering cutting-edge technology, CSA limits the number of collisions through a wing camera placed on the side of the vehicle based on pixel recognition and AI.

Introducing Brigade’s next-gen cameras

The new generation of active blind-spot detection that recognises humans using AI and warns the driver visually and/or audibly when a person is detected. This cost-effective system alerts lorry drivers to potential dangers, such as a VRU in its blind spot, while substantially reducing false positive warnings by only alerting the driver when there is a real danger of collision with a Vulnerable Road User.

The operating system used in the cameras is ‘trained’ to recognise people over hundreds of thousands of hours, ensuring that the system has an exceptionally quick reaction time that can make the difference between life and death. The system has an HD camera with all processing power embedded, enabling it to identify whether there is a human within the detection range. The camera is 20% larger than the last iteration, at the front and rear of the vehicle, and has a detection range that stretches from the very front of the vehicle to three metres out.

Installation is easy with the ‘plug and play’ system, and the camera is waterproofed to the highest standard. The minicomputer built into the camera unit uses an ongoing process of machine learning to continually improve detection rates using a state-of-the-art algorithm. And with zero warm boot time, drivers can set off with confidence.

The product is backed by Brigade’s exceptional customer service and expert installation, and is currently undergoing extensive trials with exceptionally positive results. The product development work is being done in partnership with Brigade’s manufacturing partner.
