Working Principle of magnetic flow meter

Electromagnetic flowmeters work on the principle of Faraday’s Law of electromagnetic induction. In accordance with the law when a conductive fluid disturbs the magnetic field of a meter, a low signal voltage is induced. Further, that low voltage signal is then sent by the electrode which is mounted on the wall of the flow tube. The induced signal voltage is then processed by the electronic transmitter to work out the flow velocity. Thus the generated voltage is directly proportional to the velocity of the flow medium.

Construction of Electromagnetic Flow Meter

The electronic part of the magnetic flow meter consists of a head-type flow indicator displaying the current flow rate and cumulative flow of the flowing medium. Along with the large graphical display it also has other communication and transmission outputs like RS 485 Communication and 4-20 mA output. To operate it requires an external power supply of 24 VDC. The electronic enclosure is certified to be weatherproof – IP 66 housing.

The mechanical construction consists of Magnetic Coil housing, electrode, flow tube with PTFE or rubber lining, and flanged end connection. The selection of the lining material and electrode is made on the basis of liquid compatibility with that material, temperature, and corrosive property.
