Calcium carbonate is a common chemical compound substance found in rock in all parts of the world and is usually the principal cause of hard water. Hard water causes scaling, which is the left-over mineral deposits that are formed after the hard water has evaporated and is known as limescale. For water extractors, excessive calcium carbonate can clog pipes and pumps and restrict water production. Across the water industry, water hardness must be constantly monitored to avoid costly breakdowns in pumping and associated equipment.

The appearance of calcium carbonate is generally that of a distinct white powder or stone and is more layered than iron oxide deposits. Iron oxide could also be present indicated by a rust coloured calcification.

BoreSaver IKL Pro is an approved cleaning treatment that dissolves calcium carbonate or manganese oxide deposits found in bores, wells, pumps and pipes. Specially formulated as a combination chemical solution IKL Pro also offers an effective solution for water supply systems that suffer from both problems.

Use of IKL Pro improves water supply, increases output and extends the working life of pumping equipment and accessories. IKL Pro is safe and easy to use. It can be used without dismantling equipment and will not attack or deteriorate any materials inside the system.

IKL Pro is supplied as a concentrate liquid and can be used undiluted or mixed with water just prior to use depending on the dosage required. It is a proprietary chemical blend of acids with a non-ionic surfactant which promotes emulsions.

IKL Pro is approved by the Secretary of State under Regulation 31 of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000 for use in potable water applications. Approved methods and dosages should be maintained at all times.

IKL Pro was developed in Australia by Aquabiotics Industrial.

IKL Pro is added directly to the water system and the amount to use is based on the volume of water. Typical dosage rates are between 50 and 100 litres per cubic metre of water in the well, depending on the severity of the contamination.

The IKL Pro treatment works directly on the problem, loosening and dissolving the deposits and related contamination. Any of the standard rehabilitation methods are then used, including surging and brushing, air-lifting and pump-in recycling, to safely pump the deposits and contamination away. The ideal cleaning time period can be between 4 and 24 hours.

The frequency of follow up cleaning will be determined by the natural conditions in the system although a regular maintenance programme is recommended.

To ensure the best possible results we have developed a Well Rehabilitation Analysis Checklist which should be completed before use. We recommend the use of a good quality downhole CCTV camera to accurately assess the nature and extent of the contamination. Please refer to our technical department with any queries.

IKL Pro is available in 1 litre containers, 20/25 & 205 litre drums and 1000 litre IBC.

IKL Pro can be used in conjunction with all other BoreSaver treatments. Refer to our technical department for advice.
