Kemira DesinFix - Chlorine-Free Disinfection For Water Reuse Applications
DesinFix is a complete disinfection technology including chemicals, equipment and related services. The technology is developed by Kemira to meet the increasing demands of waste water disinfection in water reuse applications such as: Agricultural and landscape irrigation, recreational applications (meeting the requirements of the EU bathing water directive), industrial applications such as disinfection of internal service water.
Performic acid –fast acting with no residual effects
DesinFix is based on a mixture of formic acid and hydrogen peroxide. When accurately mixed, they form a highly efficient biocide DEX-135 with performic acid as the active substance. Performic acid decomposes to form hydroxyl radicals that kill the bacteria.
After 10 minutes the water is disinfected and within an hour after dosing, the active substance can no longer be detected. DEX-135 breaks down into carbon dioxide and water. No toxic disinfection by-products can be detected.
By definition DEX-135 is considered a pesticide requiring product registration. DEX-135 is not offered for sale in North America until the necessary Federal and State biocide registrations are obtained.
High efficiency disinfection at a competitive cost
DesinFix is primarily targeted to municipal waste water treatment plants. However, the method may also be used for treatment of industrial process waters and other applications. Measurements have shown that it is possible to achieve a 6 log (99.9999%) kill ratio using the DesinFix solution. When it comes to costs, Kemira DesinFix has a distinct advantage with low energy consumption, competitive operational costs, minimal maintenance requirements, and much lower investment cost compared to UV-light or ozone disinfection.

DesinFix is the ultimate technology in waste water disinfection. It is based on a mixture of formic acid and hydrogen peroxide.
