Circular grit traps are used to retain heavy solid particles in wastewater that, if not removed, settle in the aeration and sedimentation stages of the treatment system and cause blockages in pipes during low flow times. These types of grit traps are small and used in various configurations. In circular grit traps, wastewater enters the tank tangentially and exits radially. With the help of a mixer located inside the tank, the water circulates at a slow but constant tangential velocity. During this process, the heavier sand particles settle to the bottom of the tank and are then sucked up by a pump and transferred to collection and retention tanks.
