Sioux was founded in 1939 in Beresford, South Dakota, initially manufacturing steam cleaners to clean automobile engines. In 1965, the company was purchased by John and Virginia Finger, who began designing additional models of steam cleaners and hot or cold water pressure washers, with larger capacities and pressures for application in other industries.

In the early 1960’s, Sioux built its first instantaneous water heater for a concrete batch plant. Over the next 50 plus years, Sioux continually expanded and improved these units to provide numerous features specifically for application in concrete production, establishing the reputation as the number one recognized brand in the USA. Sioux added discharge and circulation pumps, water storage tanks, and control systems designed for ready mix and precast plants. This product line was further modified and developed into another product line, the solution heater, which is used in the mining of precious metals. Other industries, such as manufacturing and food and beverage production, now use Sioux industrial water heaters in their operations. Sioux currently has thousands of industrial water heaters in service in the concrete, mining, and manufacturing industries.

Starting in 1960, Sioux developed the finest commercially viable line of electrically heated steam cleaners and hot water pressure washers. These units are similar to conventional hot water washers or steam cleaners, except the oil or gas burner used to heat the water is replaced by electric resistance heating elements enclosed in a vessel. Sioux offers both standard and explosion proof models, third-party certified to UL, CSA, and NEC codes and standards. For decades Sioux has been recognized as the world leader in explosion proof cleaning equipment, and offers custom packages used in offshore oil exploration and production, surface and underground mining, nuclear power plants, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, refineries, waste water treatment plants, manufacturing facilities, and in numerous other applications.

After a fire burned the original Sioux building to the ground on November 30, 1967, the decision was made to rebuild. In 1968, Sioux began manufacturing from a new, modern facility in Beresford.

In April of 1995, John “Jack” Finger (John and Virginia’s son) returned to work at Sioux, after 21 years’ experience in project design engineering and construction management. During this time, Sioux began to value engineer product lines, providing increased performance and customer value at lower cost, meeting numerous safety codes and standards, and offering options and features required for unique applications.

Sioux Today

In 2008, Sioux Corporation established the only national agreement with Carrier Corporation to offer Carrier water chilling systems for use in hot weather concrete production. Sioux now offers entire water heating and chilling systems engineered and fabricated specifically for use in ready mix or precast concrete production.

On January 1, 2018 the Finger family sold the company to three Sioux managers: Meg Andersen, Eric Hansen, and Brad Hryonimus. Upon completion of the sale, Jack Finger retired after multiple decades of service with Sioux. Brad Hyronimus was named President and CEO.

Today, Sioux has a modern manufacturing plant and office facility on a 15-acre site in Beresford, South Dakota. Beresford is a community of 2,000 people, located south of Sioux Falls, a rapidly growing city which has been awarded “Top Ten Place to Live in the USA” repeatedly in the past two decades.

The Sioux brand has been built on its reputation as a provider of heavy-duty, reliable, application specific products. Sioux is recognized for outstanding engineering and manufacturing experience and capability, offering options and modifications such as 50 or 60 Hz, voltages such as 380, 415, 575, and 690, custom control systems, units engineered for challenging applications such as high altitude or extreme weather conditions, custom frame designs and materials, and customized trailer packages and skids.
