Building Regulations recommend that commercial sites in hard water areas take measures to reduce hard scale deposits in hot water systems. As limescale also promotes harmful bacteria, continuous treatment is required. The current options for commercial sites are chemical water softening or the physical conditioning of water.

Chemical water softening
is the traditional approach. It exchanges calcium for sodium to generate soft water, but also salt water during regeneration which may harm the environment upon discharge. The regeneration cycle, which can be daily, also wastes considerable amounts of water Servicing and delivery of salt bags can make softening an expensive process as well as increasing the carbon footprint. Water softening is rarely used in drinking water due to health concerns and this prevents water softening from providing complete site protection.

Physical water conditioning
is the modern approach. It promises complete site protection against hard scale without adding chemicals to water or stripping it of minerals, It doesn`t waste water and has minimal maintenance costs. Until now, the results from physical water conditioners have often not matched expectation.

Now an advanced technology is available that exceeds expectation. Complete site protection from a single unit installed in the incoming mains cold supply. Contra Calc incorporates the latest advances in physical water conditioning.
