Faster automobiles, higher speed limits and larger more powerful commercial carriers have pushed the demands and control of highway safety to the brink. Factor in a dramatic increase in long-distance commuter traffic and an increasing trend toward driver impatience... and the need for safer roadways is compelling.

Many of the more serious accidents on our urban expressways and interstates involve collisions when vehicles lose control and cross median strips into on coming traffic or careen off ramps and bridges. Drivers are at the mercy of the median, ramp and bridge protective safety barriers and railings. Many of the early on structure railing systems cannot now cope with the higher speeds, size and volume of today`s traffic. Since the advent of barriers shaped to prevent penetration and overturning, much research has been carried out to evaluate the performance of these safety devices under full-scale crash test conditions.

Clampcrete Construction Systems can provide you with an engineered solution that includes both permanent and temporary crash tested barrier meeting current design requirements for PL-2/TL-4 parapets and medians for bridge structures and ramps. This engineered approach can incorporate architectural features with quality made precast concrete that is appropriate for both new, replacement and retrofit construction. The Clampcrete system can be used on straight and curved alignments, can match existing or designed expansion joint layouts and has the added benefit of being able to continue installation regardless of season or weather.

The range and versatility of the Clampcrete system makes it the logical solution for your needs and the future of highway safety.

  • The Clampcrete CRASHED TESTED system includes both permanent and temporary barriers.
  • Patented removable anchors allow permanent barriers to be used first in temporary work zones to reduce duplication of cost.
  • Barriers can be supplied in "F" shape, Jersey or constant slope profiles with two standard alternate heights.
  • Barriers can be manufactured to accommodate straight or curved alignments.
  • Barriers may be tailor made to match bridge and ramp expansion joint layouts and can be provided with a variety of architectural features and finishes found only in quality precast concrete.
  • Profiles: "F" Shape, Jersey Shape, Constant Slope
  • Lengths: 20` length is standard and any special intermediate length greater than 12` can be supplied to match bridge layouts.
  • Heights: 32" and 34" [above deck level] heights available
  • Types: Permanent and Temporary Crash Tested Barrier to PL-2 (NCHRP Report 230) and TL-4 (NCHRP 1993 Report 350) in accordance with the AASHTO Load and Resistance Factor (LRFD) guidelines.
  • Finish: Vertical and horizontal rustications with other architectural features and surface finishes available.
  • Concrete: Barriers available in high strength, microsilica and lightweight concretes.
  • Reinforcement: Deformed epoxy coated Grade 60 rebar
  • Anchor Bolts: 1" diameter A449 galvanized high strength anchor bolts can be provided in a variety of lengths to suit different overlay conditions. Patented removable anchors (Removakel ™) with special coatings are available for barriers used in temporary locations.
  • Anchor Bonding: High strength polyester resin bonds each anchor to the structural concrete deck and are proof-torqued to 36 kips once the resin has cured. Permanent installation anchors are post tensioned and provided with a Bonded Pre-Load BPLTM by resin bonding them to the specially designed conical shaped barrier bolt hole.
  • End Connections: All barriers are end connected by a minimum of three deformed reinforcement dowels. For permanent installations these dowels are bonded into tapered concentric dowel holes at both ends of each barrier to ensure the transfer of loads across the joints between adjacent barriers.
  • Expansion Joints:
  • Barriers can be manufactured with skewed ends and can also incorporate the continuity of bridge expansion joints across road decks.
  • Installation:Barriers can be installed year round. Complete written instructions are provided to installers and an instructional visit from a Clampcrete representative can be made at the beginning of installation.
